All the jews had to register as jews in Germany if they wanted to live there, if you were registered you were executed publicly and instantly.
His dad was in the camp for four months in 1939, we don't know why his dad was released four months later ( maybe he escaped ).
The young boy and his family were so bothered by what had happened that night that even though they survived and the holocaust is over they still ring the doorbell twice as if they were still waiting for the SS to come. They had all survived and moved to America.
